The Physics Department, which joined the Faculty of Arts and Science established in 1982 in 1993, began education and training at the Göztepe Campus. Starting with 20 students in those years, our department now continues its education by accepting nearly 60 students each year. From its establishment until 2012, the language of instruction was Turkish, but after the 2012- 2013 academic year, the department transitioned to a curriculum requiring about 50% English instruction. With the introduction of our university's “Regulations on International Joint Programs for Dual Degrees” in 2009, the Department of Physics began offering dual major and minor programs in collaboration with all the other Faculties. After our university began participating in the LLP/Erasmus Program in 2002 as a “pilot university,” it became one of the few universities to earn the “Erasmus University Mobility.” Our department has also entered into various bilateral agreements, and will continue to do so with other universities upon request. Through the Erasmus Program, faculty members are provided with the opportunity to integrate with Europe through teaching and training activities, alongside student mobility. Over time, a young and dynamic team of faculty members who have been trained on an international platform and engaged in collaboration has been formed within the department. The current faculty is the core team, and it is on its way to becoming one of the best Physics Departments, open to further growth and international competition.

The graduate program in Physics Department is conducted entirely in English since 2015.
