Message of the Chairman
The Physics Department offers a wide range of exciting research programs in both Fundamental and Applied Physics. Currently, there are 11 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 5 Assistant Professors, and 6 research assistants. With this, a large number of domestic and international graduate students are carrying out their studies in different research areas at our department.
In our department, there are many ongoing research projects supported by both national and international agencies such as TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) and CERN (European Council for Nuclear Research) through TENMAK. As a department, we value university-industry collaborations deeply, so we also have research projects in that regard
Our department program provides research opportunities in the following areas:
Astronomy and Astrophysics
Atmospheric Physics | |
Atomic, Mokecular ve Optical (AMO) Physics
Gravitation and Cosmology
Biophysics | |
Computational Physics and Modelling
Nuclear Physics | |
Condensed Matter Physics
High Energy Physics |
Research centers and other programs that conduct research in collaboration with our department are TUBITAK, Marmara Research Center (MAM), ITU Nuclear Energy Institute, CERN-CMS experiment, Gebze Technical University and Boğaziçi University Kandilli Kahve Laboratory. Furthermore, faculty members collaborate with many other universities all around the world.
We have around 30 domestic and international graduate students who continue their studies in our department. Both our Master of Science (MS) and Doctorate programs are offered entirely in English. The core courses are compulsory, while others are elective. In general, students fulfill the core-requirements during their freshman year and join a research program shortly thereafter. The students are expected to find an advisor and participate in one of the ongoing research activities in the department, moreover, the students are presented with options to collaborate with other departments, faculty, or any other universities they like for an interdisciplinary research.
The department strives to provide a pleasant and collaborative environment for students' research activities and their studies and helps both the researchers and students for living up to their full potential. We work on developing and updating our curriculum to include the most recent developments in physics. You are always welcome to contact us and learn more about our department and associated programs.
Take good care of yourself.
